This summer for the 56th edition of Les Rencontres d’Arles, German printmakers Oschatz Visuelle Medien have partnered with Freelens to produce an exhibition on Innova Art paper.

Les Rencontres de la Photographie has taken place in Arles every summer since 1970. Hosting more than forty exhibitions at various heritage sites throughout the city, the festival has been a major influence in circulating the best of world photography. Featuring the work of new and established visual artists, the festival has been a springboard for many photographic and contemporary creative talents.

Freelens © Lucia BlahovaBeing and Becoming is an exhibition exploring the transformative forces that shape our lives. Combining the visible with the invisible, asking how connections develop, revealing the magic and absurdity of everyday life. Freelens Young Professionals and photographers from the Hamburg Portfolio Review take a look at the rituals, contradictions and hidden forces that shape human existence.

The exhibition explores a cross section of society from marginalised identities to the challenges of old traditions and the reinvention of the everyday. Capturing the complex dynamics of isolation and community, revealing particular aspects of our globalised world and addressing political and social challenges of our time. Each photograph creates a narrative that resonates subtly, emerges clearly or powerfully demands attention, encouraging a dialogue about the complexity of human life.

Freelens is Germany’s professional association for genuine photography and visual art. They stand for independent journalism, fair fees and the protection of creative work. Using the power of their collective membership to defend press freedom, promote media literacy and advocate for an open society.

Being and Becoming will be on display from July 7th to October 5th at the Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation.
